Welcome to the Humanist Association
of the Greater Sacramento Area (HAGSA), a Chapter of the
American Humanist Association (AHA) and
an affiliate of the Council for Secular Humanism (CSH).
This site
is for both members and non-members of HAGSA. If you are not a member,
but are in general agreement with the following principles, you may,
if you live in the greater Sacramento area, want to consider HAGSA
membership.
-
Knowledge of the world is derived by observation, experimentation,
and rational analysis.
-
Humans are an integral part of nature, the result of unguided
evolutionary change.
-
Ethical values are derived from human need and interest as tested
by experience.
-
Life's fulfillment emerges from individual participation in the
service of humane ideals.
-
Humans are social by nature and find meaning in relationships.
-
Working to benefit society maximizes individual happiness.
These principles
are enumerated and explained in Humanist Manifesto III. To see the full
Manifesto, click on the following link.

If you are
a HAGSA member, please familiarize yourself with the site. You’ll find
it a useful place to visit on a regular and frequent basis.
If you are
not a member, please take some time to explore the site. The Meetings
section will give you some idea of what we do. Then, if you decide you
would like to become one of us, just click on Membership on the menu
at the left. In any case, please know that you are welcome to keep coming
back.
