Fifteen people
attended this enjoyable meeting.
HAGSA member and
semi-retired journalist Bob Schmidt had a career with the Long Beach Press
Telegram and with the San Jose Mercury News, for which he covered state
government and politics at a time when those newspapers had a Sacramento
bureau. He spoke of his career. One of the perks of being a journalist is
the access one sometimes has to persons who are major newsmakers. For a
political reporter in Sacramento, this means legislators and state
constitutional officers, including the governor. He had occasional access
to other types of newsmakers, such as actors.
